Liberty Steel UK (LSUK) has relaunched production at its GREENSTEEL Rotherham electric arc furnace, with restart and operation at night to maximise efficiency and mitigate high energy costs. Operations at Rotherham, which produces sustainably produced steel for growth markets such as infrastructure and high-value engineering, are scheduled to run between 11pm and 6am when energy costs will be comparatively lower. Small and medium-sized manufacturers are continuing to bounce back from the pandemic, despite experiencing significant supply chain and recruitment struggles, new research shows. Scottish Power has secured a contract to provide 100% renewable electricity to Hitachi Rail’s UK operations for the upcoming three years. The energy firm will supply around 21GW of electricity to all of Hitachi Rail’s UK maintenance and manufacturing sites. Rolls-Royce has announced that following a successful equity raise, the Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR) business has been established, to bring forward and deliver at scale the next generation of low cost, low carbon nuclear power technology. Derby-based engine maker Rolls-Royce has launched a long-term partnership with Qatar to invest billions in green engineering projects to help entrepreneurs find new ways to achieve net zero.
