Production of new UK cars fell by almost 10% last month compared with a year ago, latest industry figures show. The Society of Motor Manufacturing and Traders (SMMT) said 136,119 new cars were built in May, 9.7% fewer than the same month in 2016.   The SMMT said carmakers were now set to ramp up production of new models, with exports the main driver of demand.  576,556 new cars have been shipped abroad since January, a 0.8% increase year-on-year.   Although production for overseas markets ... Oil has begun flowing from a North Sea field which is part of a wider project aimed at unlocking 100 million barrels of additional reserves. Operator Repsol Sinopec Resources UK said first oil had been achieved at the Shaw field, about 200km (124 miles) east of Aberdeen.   Shaw is part of the Montrose Area Redevelopment (MAR). Derby-based Rolls-Royce and Kale Group, a major player in global and national defence and aerospace industries, have announced the formation of a joint venture company to target aero engine opportunities in Turkey.  Kale Group will own 51% and Rolls-Royce 49% of the joint venture, which aims to develop aircraft engines for Turkey, initially targeting the TF-X National Fighter jet Project.   Kale Group is the contractor for the Turbojet engine development project, a milestone in Turkey’s aim to produce domestic aircraft engines. Organisations which have introduced advanced automation into their workplace are seeing revenue growth, job creation and greater employee satisfaction, according to a new global survey.   By 2018, almost half of companies (46) said they would need greater automation to handle the volume of tasks being generated. A new 600MW wind farm off the Dutch coast has come online, and will eventually provide power to 1.5 million people.   Situated 85km into the North Sea off the coast of Groningen, the Gemini wind park is one of the world’s largest.  Its 150 turbines cover 68 square kilometres, and provide an installed capacity of 600MW. Japanese carmaker Toyota will be responsible for best practice requirements in a £3m programme created by several public and private bodies which aims to create a platform for fuel cell production for zero-emission cars.   Clean energy provider Intelligent Energy will take the technical lead in the scheme, aiming to demonstrate cost reductions of fuel cells through digital manufacturing techniques.   The three-year programme, named Digiman, will be supported by an academic department at the University of Warwick, which provides research in manufacturing and technology. ...
